Flower

A true flower consists of severalparts. Outside (or below the showy parts) arethe sepals (together called the calyx) and it isthese which cover the flower bud, the partsseparating as the flower opens. The colored partsare the petals (together called the corolla).Usually in the centre is the female organ, thesticky stigma on which pollen is received, thetubelike style and the swelled portion at thebase the ovary where the seeds are formed. Alsoin the center are the stamens or male organs,usually long, threadlike filaments at the ends ofwhich are the anthers or pollen-producing organs. Flowers differ (according to families,genera and species) regarding the number andarrangement and color of these parts but ingeneral all are usually present in one form oranother.
