The name is a help, but ‘American Heritage’ is still a popular Hybrid Tea in the US. The flowers are large, very full, and borne singly on long stems, which makes it a useful rose for picking. The buds are cream-coloured, with dark pink edges to their petals, and an attractive conical shape as they open out. The open flower, however, has a mass of small petals at its centre, many of them quilled like an old-fashioned `AMERICAN HERITAGE’ rose. The petals at the centre of the flower have a rich suffilsion of yellow, with hints of huff and pink to contrast with the ivory and crimson outer petals. The plant has prickly stems, large dark leaves, and crimson new growths. It is an upright grower and in hot climates can be trained as a pillar rose. Mildew may be a problem in cooler climates.
