Abelmoschus is formerly these plants were all grouped under Hibiscus, to which they are closely related. They have large,funnel-shaped flowers with alternate leaves adamantly arranged veins. Grafting and layering are used in their propagation, but all root readily from softwood and hardwood cuttings.Also grown from seed.

The very large flowers of this species from eastern Asia can be as much as 9 in. wide, yellow to white with a dark brown center. There is variety grandiloquent supposedly with even larger flowers. The leaves are narrowly lobed.

Native to India, with funnel-shaped flowers4 in. wide, yellow with a crimson center. The leaves are lobed and it is sometimes grown as an annual but it needs plenty of hot weather in order to grow properly. The seeds have a musky odor.
